Why is it important to fight fair?

The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway.  ~Henry Boye

Why is it important to fight fair?

In an argument there are two or more people involved and emotions are high. Someone may do something that is not fair and things will start growing spiraling out of control. It could be that one of the arguers has never learned to fight fair.

Keep arguments private.  This means do not fight in public, nor try to bring others into the argument. If someone wants to fight in public this means they want an audience for some reason.

Clarify the topic. What is the true topic of the fight? If you are the one presenting the argument make certain you are fighting over the right matter. When your friend asks for help do not get into a fight over that when the problem is she was not there when you asked for help. If someone has an argument with you, clarify. Make certain you know, it may not be what you thought.

Know when to end the fight. If things get ugly then the fight needs to end. Stop talking. Stop arguing. Walk away. Announce “We both need to be calm.” If the other person starts attacking, stay calm.

Make it a win/win.  This does not mean win at all costs. This means find a compromise. Agree to disagree. Agree to forget about the matter. You both should walk away feeling resolved not embittered.

There is a middle ground between any people, but how many are willing to find it? This middle ground would dissolve wars, conquer ills, and be more valuable than gold, now you have the map to find it. ~ The Divine
