Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you – not because they are nice, but because you are. ~ Unknown ~
30 Days of Killing Jerks
The boss has a favorite employee who can do no wrong. The person knows it, so is disrespectful of everyone else. You wish your neighbor would stop acting so hateful of you. Then there is that person who just seems mad at you all the time.
No matter how much you may wish it were otherwise, some people are going to rude. Some people are going to dislike you. They may treat you like you are the impossible one. Whatever they are doing is their problem.
You can be nice. Being genuinely nice to someone who is rude is not fake. If you can’t be nice, find their most positive points and respect them for those. It may seem trivial but discovering those elements that you like can work for you.
You may not be able to trust your co-worker with any information about you, but you can trust them on small talk. Find what you can share that you are comfortable with sharing. Then limit your conversations or your activities to those. Then you keep yourself safe and can be friendly.
After 30 days, the person may still dislike you. Yet, you are the one who controls your emotions. Rather than stoop to their level, you kill them with kindness. They may change, or they may not, but you do. You see more good in them, and that might be just the seed they need for a change later. ~ MJ Schrader

You can not control others, but just like you control your own happiness, you can control how you treat others. Be kind because you can. ~ The Divine
